I was asked to make a door and frame leading to a storeroom attached to a customer’s garage secure.
The door was outward opening, so I fitted a strip of wood 20mm thick on the inside. I then supplied and fitted two locks (keyed alike) to the wood, which brought the bolts further back into the frame.
I then supplied and fitted a 5mm piece of angle line steel over the full length of the frame and then drilled and grinded out two holes for the bolts.
Finally, I supplied and fitted 4 coach bolts (2 on each of the locks), which bolted the locks to the door stopping them being knocked off from the outside.
Adding metal onto your frame and bolting locks on instead of just screws really makes it so much more secure. Although it sometimes doesn’t look quite as nice, if aesthetics isn’t an issue I would always recommend it.
